Simple answer, no.
Railroad has no interest.
Politicians seeking more jobs for Butte
and ways to expedite Montana coal and grain to export.
Maybe if it were not such an expensive piece of track.
Problem is tight curves, tough gradient, plus tunnels and trestles
to rebuild. My two bit theory is if BNSF were to ever to see a need to
reopen the line you'd probably see empties go that way like MRL does
on Evaro Hill. It's still owned by BNSF.
Unless new ports are opened on the west coast
and traffic really doubled or trippled I seriously
doubt it would happen. But what a great photographic
opportunity if they ever do.
