I admit, the look of a ballasted deck timber trestle is nice. We had a rather long double track one of those go up in flames here recently. You may have seen it, it made national news if I recall. The line was down for 13 days and caused many delays. The structure that UP replaced it with is very similar to this one. It turns out that the one that burned was already slated for replacement as it was a fire danger. The concrete structure will last as long or longer and will not go up in smoke. Change is not all bad.
