I heard Sygnet had some financial issues, and is basically closed for the time being. All employees have been laid off, or at least that is what I have been told. The WP&Y 100 was in pieces and the carbody primed the first week of January. A colleague of mine was at Sygnet to document the status of CECX 1919 prior to its move to Brookville.
Yes, Sygnet had orders for 4 locomotives for both Sao Paulo Brazil and Peru Rail. If you look at the latest Google Earth Imagery of Sygnet, you can see a WP&Y diesel sitting outside, and the CECX 1919 poking its cab out of the shop. I believe in front of the 1919, you can see one of the carbodys for the South American locomotives sitting outside as well.
I hope their closure is a temporary situation, but does raise the question, who or where will the work be completed on the locomotives works in progress, if the closure turns out to be more than short term?
