Per Dr. Zarkoff's previous posting, can anyone confirm the use of what he calls "huck" bolts or other break away technology used on the draft gear (coupler/drawbar) of the Rotem cars? Did the draft gear all break away? And where did it (does it) go after it broke/brakes away?
Some of the media flacks are already going for the cab cars are dangerous line, and several Union flacks had already pushed this line.
I just had to remind one of these folks, that he was including in his "list" of cab cars that derailed, one that had been hit while stopped, and another sideswiped by a derailing train, in his number of "cabcar" (caused?) derailments. And, I had to remind him that there was an engine in front at Chatsworth..... which rode up, upon hitting the UP train, and was pushed through the soft body of the lead car, where most of the deaths occurred.....?
This flack also told me that the Rotem cars were officially being praised for "working as they were designed to", and that careful, vague, and "general" use of language seemed just a bit odd. But, maybe it's me, and I didn't know the system was designed to throw the trains of off the tracks, turned 180 degrees, onto there sides, from an impact of this severity?
