I get the feeling the Rotems were designed for being struck by another train or striking something large when its wheels would be level with the railheads, but nobody really gave any thought to a repeat of Glendale--a vehicle getting caught under the anticlimber.

By all means correct me if I'm a bit off in my assessment of things, but my guess is that the truck created a "ramp" for the lead truck to climb. Not mentioned in my post is that the ruts in the dirt seem to support this.
