I trust that after a few Darwins are awarded one or both of 2 things will happen: the survivors will become more careful, and SMART will be forced to slow down to 50-60mph like light rail. A massive police blitz before and during the first couple of operating weeks might help with "infant mortality." I also suspect that SMART will have a fence between the bike trail and the tracks where spacing is tight, which will at least give a hint to the aware.
That won't eliminate the problem, of course. The light rail system I use, even after almost 30 years in operation, has occasional trespasser hits, usually pedestrians at stations or crossings where somebody is totally plugged in and oblivious, drunk, on drugs, committing suicide, or some combination. Yes, those in the first car or 2 see it in full Technicolor, Photoshop enhanced, and buses are called out for the rest of the day. All the trains slow down there for a couple of months afterward, then gradually get back to normal speed. It rarely repeats at the same station or crossing - the problems move around.
