If you buy a plane ticket to Denver, and the plane lands in Phoenix with a bus to Denver, but they charge you MORE for the detour, do you call it rare mileage or do you get upset that they inconvenienced you and charged you more for it? When your normal route you take to drive to work is blocked by construction, are you excided for the delay caused by the detour? Holy crap people, let’s think about this from a normal person view, and put away the foamer glasses sometimes. Charging more for a detour route on a regularly scheduled train is about the dumbest thing I can think of. If you want rare mileage, charter your own train or AAPRCO train.
Oh, and for everyone else, the Cal Zephyr going through Wyoming is a normal yearly thing. Every year about this time the Moffett Tunnel line is shut down for maintenance, and the Zephyr goes through Wyoming.
