When my Mom sold the ranch in Goleta in 1980 there was a title report on the place. My Grandparents owned it from the 30s.
I was very surprised it started out as a Mexican Land Grant. Then it showed being divied up and to the person who wound up that owned it before our family.
This guy was a big boozer and every weekend he would get drunk and go to town, and then go to church on Sunday and tell the Padra what he had done. Well the Padra told him to say so many Hail Mary's and bring the church a cord of oak firewood.
Well, when my grandfather got involed in the early 30s, almost all the trees were gone on the hill top. Looking at the title map it showed my Aunt Kitty Bishop's place and she had a siding called Coromar that serviced her place. My Uncle, TM Storke, the Hollester folks, the Stow Ranch and a few more showed on the old title around our place. When WWII broke out Uncle Sam built a "Look Out" at the highest part of the place. My mother was present when the Japs "Bombed" the oil fields in EllWood from a sub. It was always a question if it was the Japs or a practice shelling by our own. The downstairs in the Lookout had all kinds of maps AND plane IDs of the Japs.
I know, the could of, should of, but hey, I was there from '55 until I was 15.
Oh there were stories but nobody wrote them down. A shame.
