The causes of the closure of Bayshore are pretty simple to understand.
● The slow but drastic decline in rail-related customers.
● The shift to trucks.
● The steady increase in labor costs.
● The elimination of the need for a car and locomotive repair location.
● The shift in management from those having "traditional" railroad backgrounds to "MBA" types.
● SP's declining financial health.
and
● The ability to concentrate all remaining jobs at South San Francisco.
What amazes me, though, is that UP hasn't spun-off the remaining work to a short line or contract operator.
