Hi George, You are referring to Lookout Pass, not Mullan Pass. There is a Mullan Pass between Idaho and Montana, a little way north of Lookout Pass. The Northern Pacific right of way from the town of Mullan to the Montana state line can be driven by a two wheel drive pickup truck. My brother and I did it 3 or 4 years ago. It is not paved and is rough in spots. I cannot envision any scenario where rails would ever be re-laid on Lookout Pass.
