SMART Golden Spike Location: Subgrade Complete at Civic Center Gap

Work to prepare this final two or three hundred foot gap south of Civic Center station seems to have finally gotten underway. After some earthwork being done a couple weeks ago, today I find the area all ready for rails. The Shimmick ballast crew was working further south of this spot, as well, I believe. Well, we'll see if there ends up being any hullaballoo re: golden spike here. Of course, there remains the old NWP main on either side of Haystack bridge and that will likely be replaced last of all, so it's possible that could be your Golden Spike locale.

A train to San Rafael...won't that be something?
