Thank you Arlen and Larry. Very interesting! Well, SP&S was owned by both GN and NP, so I suppose a car based on a NP car design could be used exclusively for the Empire Builder!
Even though my Car Names, Numbers and Consists is about 10 feet away from me on my bookshelf, I haven't looked it up, but I don't remember any other sleeper-lounges that had anything other than bedrooms in them - certainly not roomettes. However, it was a perfect car for the Portland-Spokane run. Undoubtedly, the sleeping space was very rarely sold eastbound, since the train arrived in Spokane late in the evening, westbound, I really wonder just how often those rooms were sold. I'll bet in the cars later years, the occupancy was pretty low. I sure wish I'd have made a run to Spokane just so I could have had space in that very car.
