Old EMD's are soooooooo much easier to work on and maintain than old GE's. GE parts cost a fortune (if you can get GE to sell them too you at all) you gotta have special tools to work on GE's (they cost a fortune) and older GE's wiring is scattered all over the place (mostly in places that leak water) and the list goes on. You'll notice, even dash-8's tend to find the scrapper rather than the secondary market. GE has made a lot of improvements over the years, but class 1's still regard them as a throw away unit when they are done. (NS is trying a rebuild/upgrade program for dash-8's --- time will tell if it will pencil out or not.)
