I'm guessing all these letters are ammunition for Sen. Thune to push his bill through Congress. But if it's tied into a larger Surface Transportation act who knows if the politicians will get it done. UP says they will start emmbargoing TIH shipments by Thanksgiving.
The letter by NS squarely puts a good share of the blame on the FRA. I guess they're too busy writing the proposed big brother camera regulations? Maybe we can hack into the cab cameras and critique the engineer's actions in real time? And no I don't expect Congress to let the railroads shut down but the question is why do we even have to consider they might?
How many lines can Metrolink operate where they don't use part of BNSF or UP? I seem to recall something about BNSF having to bail Metrolink out with some PTC equipment supply issues a couple years ago. And this assumes that Metrolink's sytem actually works as intende system wide without any software "glitches" by Dec 31.
