The only CBTC testing that I can recall before this thread was in the PNW, done around Blaine, WA back, say almost ten years ago. It probably fairly crude compared to today's standards. I caught a SB BNSF freight at Swift (couple of miles South of Blaine) and the headlights for the next train in sequence were visible down the tracks. This is dead-arrow-straight track, with a great view ahead for the trailing train. It was quite impressive, there was about a one mile buffer zone between the trains travelling about 30mph. It was the most extreme test I have heard on the subject.
