Eagle Mountain as a trash dump is dead, killed by environmentalists some time back. The Mesquite Landfill is ready to go and the loading site in Whittier/Industry in Los Angeles County is ready. However the Mesquite trains have not started yet for a interesting reason: Southern California has done such a great job in reducing tonnage going to landfills in the last 10-15 years that current Southern California landfills still have ample capacity for the near future and the total cost of getting the tonnage to Mesquite is higher than dumping locally. Current projections are that without a big jump in diesel fuel cost, the "trash trains" will probably start in 3-5 years.
