Well, I heard that the sleepers ride better when sandwiched between the power and the rest of the train, and not bouncing around at the tail end.

Could also be that if they needed to add a coach for passenger count or whatever, the sleepers wouldn't be sandwiched between the coach at the end where the cattle class would have to walk through the sleepers to get to the diner.
