As I recall, at least one railroad -- Seaboard Air Line -- operated sleepers up front on its premier streamliner, the "Silver Meteor"; the tavern-observation on the rear was for coach passengers. The mid-1950s edition of this train included the mid-train "Sun Lounge" sleeper lounges, and I believe that these were reserved for sleeping car passengers.
