I can walk down the block 100 feet to the 7-11 faster than it takes me to get my car out of the garage and drive there, but that fact is in no way an idictment of cars. HSR is conceived as a transportation alternative for those travelling between LA and the Bay Area, that its time reduction for metro area isn't breathtaking is equally irrelelvant.
