At the time of the Roseville explosions, I lived in Citrus Heights off of Antelope Road and across I-80. The concussion of the first explosion knocked my garage door off as the house jumped what seemed to be a foot off of the ground. I went outside to see if I could see what caused the explosion and where it was. I stepped outside and observed a large column of black smoke across the freeway. Then, another explosion which appeared to launch what I thought was part of an USAF bomber high into the air in the direction of downtown Sacramento. (I thought it was a plane crash of a bomber from either McClellan or Mather). I later found out what I saw flying through the air was a tank car. Anyway, with that explosion I could see the concussion ring coming toward me and I dropped to the ground in my front yard. When the concussion reached me, it blew out the windows, blew the front door in, tearing the door jamb like it was struck with a giant ramrod. It blew the sliding glass door to the patio off of it's track and it lit in the patio. All of the glass was broken. As the explosions continued, I gathered up my family into the car and got out of Dodge ... pronto!
Antelope was only a very tiny community ... a store, a gas station and a couple of small houses close by. After the dust settled, none of those structures remained and the rail yard looked like what I remember Viet Nam looking like after a carpet bomb run! I'll never forget that day.
