The location of the tunnel is not in a high-risk seismic zone. That zone is west of the tunnel in far-eastern Siberia. The gauge issue can be solved by dual gauge track through Siberia, which can be built using four rails per track or by specially designed rails or guard rails. The initial idea would be to connect the Chinese-Korean-Vietnamese standard gauge network with the North American network. The standards there are compatible with those in North America, as the use of GE lcomotives in China and the use of Chinese steam locomotives in the U.S. indicates.
