In a few decades, many of us won't be in a position to care any more.
In a few decades, it'll be part of the background, just like GGT's buses. Just there, not something to fight about. The bike trail connecting SMART stations, wherever it is and whatever it looks like, will be complete. By then, SMART will probably be electrified, using MUs purchased as an add-on to some future Caltrain contract. Most of the line will be double track, with some triple to handle the increased freight volume on NWP, with passenger service on the order of 15-min. intervals all day and more at commutes. Some parts of the line will be under study for raising as sea level rise makes it harder to keep operating during storms, and a few grade crossings will have been grade-separated. BART will still be trying to figure out how to keep its own operation from crashing down around its corporate ears let alone expanding into an area that doesn't want it. And Southern Marin will still be fighting over opening the Alto Tunnel to bicycles.
