Schmitbauer is somewhat of a different business. They own a building supply store in Weaverville too, so they have a local market as well. I don't think the Arcata SPI mill was much automated.....shut down most of the time I drive by with lots of product on hand to be shipped out, all Doug fir. Losing the railroad didn't help. So this means no redwood is produced north of Scotia these days. Not much use for a railroad now.
