We need to remember a few things........

Hey Folks. Don't forget who wanted to get rid of rail transport. SP,NWP,SN and most of the transit outfits. Why ? Money in their pockets.
NWP had a system back then that would be great if they had kept it. Double track, signas and 3rd rail. The Key System was ahead of the times with their tracks over the Bay Bridge and operations around the east bay. SN had a nice outfit but like the rest, they wanted freight only. SP had their Red Cars and the crack commute trains from the City to San Jose. Not to mention other passenger operations in the west and to the east coast.
Along came the big players and they did the deed. General Motors wanted to sell buses. Firestone wanted to sell tires and big money wanted to build highways.
In the end they were caught and fined but by that time it was too late. That is where it started and that is who to blame. The rest as we know, is history.
