Am I correct that you're referring to a 24-RL Automatic Brake Valve? If so, the Overspeed cut-out cock (the one that's supposed to have a seal) is on the front side facing the engineer, the Brake Pipe Cut-out cock (a.k.a., "Double-heading cock") is on the left side, and the First Service cut-out cock is on the back side (some railroads modified the First Service position to be the Pressure Maintaining position).
