Some people posting responses seem to think that things are so simple. But they fail to see the bigger picture and how complex it is.
I will take one response as an example: Pay American drivers more money!
1) ALL AMERICANs are immigrants except for native Americans. Your father, grandfather, great grandfather etc came to this country in search of a better life, better way of living, to get away from oppression etc. In search of the American Dream.
2) To pay drivers more, that money has to come from some where. It will get passed on to the consumer. But wait, consumers want to pay less, not more.
3) Kids for the last 20-30 years have been taught to go after the high paying white collar jobs. So the pool of those looking at and willing to do blue collar work has dramatically shrunk. American born and raised kids do not want to do blue collar work, it is beneath them. They will not become janitors or truck drivers or trash collectors or farmers or construction laborers or street cleaners or gardeners or tree trimmers etc etc so on and so forth. Who is to blame for that?
4) Truck driving has been a middle class job. NEWS FLASH: The middle class is being driven into extinction. The high economic class has money and blue collar work is beneath them. (Oh, but they only higher cheap labor to do the work they will not.) The lower economic class gets handouts, although only enough to make the high class not look like they do not care. Middle class, where blue collar works come from, gets nothing and thereby continues to shrink. (Of course the fourth class, the criminal class, gets away with things.)
To those thinking this is a simple problem and post hiding behind fake names, let me ask you this: If your son/daughter was paid $55,000 gross annually as blue collar worker, would you encourage him/her to be a truck driver? Or farmer? Or janitor? Or trash collector?
Do you have the courage and humbleness to put your money where your mouth is?
