Are the DMU units popular in other areas?

I've seen some comments on other sites that the DMU units from this company are not reliable. Any truth to that?

I've heard these DMU's mentioned in discussions in Seattle for possibility of being used on the Eastside route between Snohomish and Bellevue at one time. Or farther south if they put a bridge over I 405 again
