Airlines and Railways - deep trouble?

Will the same inflationary troubles hit the the railways in the US? The price of fuel is rising dramatically in both sectors and we've seen how the airlines respond; parking planes and raising fares and all the other add ons.
With the poor economy, imports are affected and already container traffic is down at ports on the West coast. Freight charges are already high and any raise would be a deterrent.
Perhaps even Amtrak will benefit under a new administration as more people are using what trains there are. Additional trains and routes would be advantageous as airline charges continue to rise beyond what most are willing to pay along with all the airport and security hassles. Compared to that, the train would seem a luxury!
