Additionally to what Bob2 said, a train reroute using the Palmdale Cutoff would have easily been 4 hours PLUS if UP had pilots available PLUS if the dispatchers could keep it moving PLUS do you have crews available to cover that time.

As for bus or even car reroutes, there is no way 138 to 15 could handle that much traffic.

The location of the fire and closures very simply did not leave very many options for commuters.

Same with those that choose to live in the Apple Valley and work south of Cajon Pass.
