See, what gets me is that groups have formed recently to restore old locomotives that need a ton of work. For example, the NC&StL 576 group in Tennessee just announced they need to raise "$3 million to restore the locomotive" and would like "an additional $2 million" to construct a home for it. Geeze Louise, five million dollars. Park loco projects like these are great leaps into the unknown. Why burn a fortune to restore a relic when you have a loco like 2353 which is a known quantity and basically ready-to-run with a new boiler? Plus it has a secure home already. Maybe it's just too easy and not enough fun for the Indiana Jones steam restoration adventure seekers out there?
