Tony C,
That's one of the reasons I left CA. in 89 and never looked back. My two daughters live on the central coast and I can not believe how much they pay in taxes. My cousin and family owned a major corp that had been in business in CA from the late 30s. They finally moved in the 70s to a state back east that didn't tax them to death. They also enjoy easier employment laws, etc. I don't know how anybody can stay in business in California much less live with the sky high taxes. Most people I know plan ahead so they don't have to fill up their cars with CA. high fuel costs and the crap they put in their gas. Truckers will do anything not to fuel with the crap in the diesel.
When I used to keep track of it, Gas & Diesel used to be almost a dollar or more a gallon than it was in Arizona and other close states. The list goes on.
I do remember when we used to have "Bean Counters" on the SP riding with us on freights in Calif. asking us when or how often we used such and such a spur or track. Also, how often we used a siding. The state and county would not give them a break on track that was unused so they yanked them out. You can't blame them.
