Trump is not a conventional Republican. In fact, IIRC as recently as 2006 he was a registered Democrat.

Amtrak is a stupid fight for any Republican to pick. Its annual subsidy is so small as to be a rounding error in a $4 TN budget. I think Trump knows this, and if he is serious about spending the kind of loot he says he is on infrastructure, it could be that Amtrak gets their fair share.

Presidents are rarely as good people think they will be, nor as bad as people fear. Remember how many people though Amtrak was finally going to get its day in the sun because Biden was a regular passenger? Didn't happen. Trump may turn out to be a surprise.
