The siding will begin a few hundred feet up the new line--after the curve that gets it bearing north. The County will take ownership of the old CWR on the base. It will be cut into reasonable lengths to get it removed without a rail pick-up train and will be stored where the County can use it for other projects (not scrap). There will be some upgrading of the existing (remaining) spur at some point, but no firm plans yet. The latest change order for the spur will be to leave the existing track in place east of the AFB property and have it connected. Original plans called for the tie-in point to be severed and shifted to match the new track alignment with all of the old line removed. There will now be a switch installed and many hundreds of feet of track will be left available for storage.
The steel spur with the tight and kink-y curve was obviously laid out by somebody looking past their thumb at the end of their extended arm instead of bring surveyed in. It's an awesome little piece of track that somebody is probably really proud of because they saved a few hundred dollars by eye-balling it in. Bruce curses that person every time he gingerly shoves cars around it.
