UP is using a tonnage per axle formula which makes way more sense than unit hp, as I said if you
do the math, at 4 mph on a 4000 hp 4 axle (powered) locomotive you get to the point where you can't
produce enough adhesion to keep the axle from spinning at which point the software intervenes and
starts derating. Even if you reach the same derate point on a six axle you've got two more axles
pulling. A 4mph (or anywhere below 10 or so) the AC motors will survive better than their DC
cousins but who the hell wants to put a train in the one hour mode? Oh yah, some railroads!
