There a number of slides, sinks and a few washouts between Dos Rio and South Fork. The longest gap
is about 800 ft where the natural forces of the geography has kinked the track towards the Eel with
some track swinging. A team of geologists, contractors and railroad personal have walked and hy-railed the Eel and the pictures from those tours are on the NCRA website. What is interesting is that overall the railroad is not as bad as experts or even former railroaders anticipated. Part of its due to the the relatively light winters during the last decade. I have heard a number of estimates on the cost to restore the track to class 2. The estimates start at $35 million and go up from there.
