Let's toss in the subject of turning such power. Turntables were already maxed out, and wyes were rarities.
Disconnecting/reconnecting water tenders would have required two operations and another half hour.
Maybe the services of a boilermaker.
Water quantity and quality were serious subjects, especially in the Southwest. Occasionally mentioned in histories. The windmill historian south of Clovis has a railroad windmill as well as many others in his backyard. In his shop is a copy of the "bible" of windmills. Another real collector's item is at the "Law West of the Pecos" museum. Find where the Pecos runs into the Rio Grande.
