Guys....Southern Pacific used extra water tanks on the sunset route behind the 2-10-2's,4-8-2's and 2-8-2's in road service and most likely some of the locals used as many as two extra water tanks.
On the Sparks to Odgen run, 4-8-2's and 2-10-2's used extra water tanks also,a number of 2-10-2's got the large tenders from the C&O power that SP bought from the UP after the war. The local out of Mojave to Searles double headed and both engines had extra water tanks.
Over all these lines the water was awful and were the first to get diesel's because of it.
