Was that dynamic control system similar to EMD of that era that used a common throttle and dynamic handle with a selector switch? I worked the wreck of a train that crested a mountain grade summit and, in a tunnel, would have changed to dynamic. Rumor had it that he was in full throttle instead. On those units the ammeter showed the same thing in full throttle as full dynamic.
As I recall the lead unit was an SD24.
