And, as the saying goes, "There's MORE!" The new cut-off for passenger trains is part of major improvements between Seattle and the Canadian border and Seattle and Portland on the BNSF. Reduced train times between Seattle and Portland are expected to be at least 10 minutes per trip, maybe more...we'll see. Improvements include a third main line in the Kelso, WA area to reduce congestion there, as well as many other projects.

Yes, there is a lot of public money involved, but I-5 is a river of semi's (not that trucks are all bad; there are just so many of them on the I-5 corridor now (especially as a lot of Portland intermodal is running up and down between the Puget Sound ports and Portland, which is not much of a port anymore) that driving a car or RV is not much fun these days. And it should be noted that a ton of money that came to Washington State was courtesy of the governors of Wisconsin and Florida who just couldn't see using it in their states to build or improve rail service. Oh well.
