It won't be as complicated as you think for BNSF trains using the Washy to connect to Pasco. There's a track at Attalia/Wallula Jct. that allows trains off the Washy to turn north and run through Villard Jct. and Ainsworth Jct. direct to Pasco. BNSF's Lowline Local uses that track 6 days a week for its run to Ayer Jct. using UP trackage rights.
