That's interesting: I wonder why they're posting so many transportation job openings, then, all over their system.
I had also read somewhere recently that both BNSF and UP are finding themselves shorthanded due to the ever-increasing freight loads (especially international container traffic from SoCal), but BNSF had (as it seems to have in many other ways, too) the foresight to be proactive with hiring and giving old-heads incentives to not retire, whereas UP waited until now to react (at the same time as they're being hit with a lot of retirements) to begin the hiring process.
I'm not disputing that they're being laid off--you know more than me--I'm just curious why, if what I've read is true...
