Out of SLO, it was an assigned run. We would work the passenger leg SLO to LA and tie up. Then work a freight LA to SLO. It had a bulletins on duty time in LA around 11:00 PM but they would always call you and tell you it was set back.
The Carrier just established the run that was against the agreement provisions with the BLE for San Joaquin & Coast engine crews. I caught it off extra board as an engineer out of SLO a few times. When an SJ crew would work it out of SLO, they would take a Coast fireman from SLO to work it and then you would go into the freight pool in LA. It was a real Cluster.
There were agreements set in place to run from the Bay Area to SLO & return with Coast/Western crews.
