Will UP re-track the Altamont Route

Considering the container traffic on I-580, has anyone heard the rumor about re-tracking the old right of way over Altamont Pass. A drunk BNSF engineer told me they are looking at Sacramento Northern's( Benica to Chico) old route as a way of getting off UP's tracks to Stockton from Quincy.
