So you want some stupid switchmen stories.....well.......
Back before he was famous of suing Michael Jackson, Larry Feldman was a famous FELA attorney, who's firm managed to get a certain LA Division switchman a big settlement, for using his "steel toe" safety boot (still attached to his foot) to "chunk" a car, while kicking cars, to keep it from rolling back, which cost five toes......
Bodel, Fogel, Feldman, Juleberg, and Rhinehart used to keep "Ed" on the part time payroll for years, using him at every union convention to staff their hospitality room and serve drinks, as an advertisement to potential RR client, that there was really nothing so stupid you could do, that they might not still be able to get you some money for..........
IIRC the "contributory negligence" claim consisted of the fact that the RR hadn't told him that "safety shoes" should be used for chunking cars, while you were wearing them...... No trial, just a check, to go away........
