SLO was always "BI". It was the telegraph call sign and voice call when they switched to voice. Also, they kept it for the radio because "Southern Pacific East San Luis Obispo Telegraph" took to long to say.
BD was the City, SD was San Jose, Fernley was NY, Salinas was NA, Watsonville was WJ,
Yuma was UM, Salem was F, El Centro was CR, Indio was DO, Guadalupe was GD, LAUPT was UD, San Diego was KN, Santa Barbara was AB, Los Angeles was HU,
The stations and call letters for the dispatcher would fill a book, system wide.
