This proposal is incredibly unwise and very
short-sighted and beyond ridiculous.
Yes, Amtrak service too often does leave
a lot to be desired, but that is nothing that
really good leadership and management and enough
money could not fix. That is, if providing excellent
passenger-rail services was a priority for our
country and society.
It is sadly obvious that almost none of the people
who are running this country -- both business and
government -- give a darn about "the general welfare".
All they care about is fattening their bank accounts --
which is always at our expense, and grabbing more and
more power over us.
A question:
I have wondered for some time: what was the total amount
that all the railroads that existed in the US in 1950 that
ran passenger trains of any kind in 1950 spent on their
passenger trains in 1950? Using an on-line inflation
calculator, what would that dollar amount be in 2017 dollars?
THAT would be VERY interesting to compare to the pittance
Amtrak got in FY 2015-2016.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone would post that
1950 dollar amount -- if such is even knowable now. TIA!
