Good points all, and let me add that those same people who ride on those Interstates don't realize that they are subsidized so heavily. Less than 50% of their cost comes from user fees. On the other hand Amtrak covers 85% of its costs with income.

But it is just human nature to want stuff for free. Raise the gas tax to cover the actual cost? Heaven forfend!
