Local left its cars at Huetter this morning for light engine run to CdA. Turned on the wye, grabbed the caboose off the UP track at Gibbs (where it's been sitting for months), crew took pictures of themselves (and posed for mine), and that, as they say, is that. Funny that this mug-shotting took place right where UP and BN locals used to jostle dozens of cars at a time at one of CdA's last big mills. Site now surrounded by hotels, shops, offices, condos, with more on the way. Crew says by 9/15 the wye will be getting ripped out, rail and ties most likely to be trucked out. Eventually will rip track west to almost Huetter (where local still makes runaround move to switch mills in Post Falls on its return trip), and later on put in a runaround near Potlatch in Post Falls, eliminating the couple of miles deadhead to Huetter. CdA: from four branches to one branch...to none.
