Railroads at times build a 'new' bridge alongside an existing span such that the new bridge can be slid into place once the old span is slid out of the way. That way downtime for the tracks is at a minimum.

This bridge replacement did not involve a railroad, but shows that shiny new technologhy is not always what it is cracked up to be ...
