None of these are “just dirt”. They all are graded, have signs, crossbucks, etc. Salinas Valley ag is a $4.5 billion industry of large family-owned businesses (Tanimura&Antle, Taylor, Church, Mann, Pryor etc) and not share-cropping dirt farmers. A Google map tour might help you understand the area better if you have not actually driven highway 101 down the valley. These accidents happen mostly because the truck drivers are in a hurry, misjudge the speed of the trains—and we only have at best 4 or 5 a day including the 2 Starlates— and dont get their rigs fully across the tracks to make the turns onto 101.
